Disclaimer:
I personally think, I would recommend this movie to a group with age range 15 up to 28 year old, is not really a serious movie but sure it’s entertaining. By looking at the film genre it’s hard to not like it, it’s genre that most people like, moreover Indonesia people really love comedy. Mostly people of my age doesn’t really know this movie, but the same main actors, and directors are also work in “Shaun the Dead” which more familiar with them and that is a good sign.
Little Note :
I really like the duo actors who plays as Nicholas Angel (Simmon Pegg) and Danny Butterman (Nick Frost), they are so good together not mentioned it they both good actors. The chemistry it self make me believe they are the character itself. I mean they nailed both the action and comedy too well, it really pull me in.
Story line :
The story begin when Nicholas Angel an over-achieving officer of London Metropolitan Police Service get ‘promoted’ and move as a Sergeant in village of Sandford, Gloucestershire, which is strangely have very low crime. It’s just because of his jealous coworker that he get to move. At the first night he arrived, he discover some teens still wondering around at night, at first he just passing by. And then he come to the bar he’s not a drinker so he ask for cranberry juice, at the first glace nothing strange, and than he realize all the bar visitor that night is a teenager. As a good and idealistic police of course, he ask and started catch them, and in the his way to the police office he almost get hit by a drunk drink, so he get him with him to the office.
The next morning he back to the office, and ask for the drunk driver last night and he found a empty cell, and later he know the drunk driver is coworker, also later then he know he is his partner. At the first day of work, the get to know his knew office which in kind of shocking condition, they even have a cake day and most of them never really handle a crime, not to mention they sure look too easy going.
His first task is to patrol around with the drunk drive a.k.a Danny Butterman which also a son of Inspector Frank Butterman who work as his boss. Nothing really happen which different from London, so Danny start ask weird question for police, like how it’s feel to shoot people and so on, not to mention he’s such a action movie addict. Then Angel start to mentioning people strange act, but Danny deny it he said it’s just they are usually, well if you’re live in small village it’s hard to don’t know all the people there. To prove that he’s right he start to following the man with hoodie, and his’s right he’s stealing some biscuit in Simmon Skinner’s supermarket. And he just surprise by Simmon Skinner the manager react, he tell Angel to just let it be.
A same routine everyday, make Angel bored so his partner start to asking him to hang around, at first he won’t accept it but as the time goes by he gave in. So he start to being buddy with Danny, but the way the office react to it own work really bothering him. So he start to make change, but doesn’t work, his coworker won’t cooperate.
After hanging with Danny in bar he get ask to come in a play, well nothing really strange about it. The next morning the two lead actors are murdered offstage by cloaked figure, who disguise it as an accident. Only Angel how think it’s a foul play, but no one believe him. When sent to resolve a neighborhood dispute, he discover a stash of illegal weapons, including an old naval mine, then he lock it in the office. Angel and Danny then help a wealthy drunkard and land developer, George Merchant to return home from the bar. Angel who start to warm to Danny then watch movie in Danny flat. That might, George Merchant is killed in a gas explosion that destroy his mansion.
Angel start to think it’s link with last ‘accident’ , but could he prove it. Will he change the police office work, or it's just on his mind.
My Opinion :
I did quite enjoy it, because it’s very entertaining, even though some other movie with same genre would be easy to guess. But not for this movie, which have a lot of plot twist. The crime it self is being carried seriously, so we can really get into it. And of course the action scene was great.
From scale 1-10 I probably gonna have to give 8 out 10, it’s really good. I think it’s one of the movie that I really like or at least pleased by it. And want to watch it with other people again, maybe just to see his/her reaction. Alert, Worst Spoiler : that the villager is a cult and the leader is the Inspector.
It is remind me to always be positive where ever you are, before you know it you can make a change, a great one. So always be thankful for what ever God give you. And also don’t judge people by the way they look, and what they seems to be.
